The Body Finder

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting

Publication Date: 2010
Publisher: HarperCollins
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Pages: 327
Source: Barnes and Noble

Summary:
Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her "power" to sense dead bodies or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes the dead leave behind in the world . . . and the imprints that attach to their killers.
Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find dead birds her cat left for her. But now that a serial killer is terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he's claimed haunt her daily, Violet realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.
Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet find the murderer and Violet is unnerved by her hope that Jay's intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she's falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer . . . and becoming his prey herself.

My Thoughts: This was SO much better than I had thought reading the first few pages. I bought this book mostly because of the cover. (Shame...) So I wasn't all that interested in reading what it was about, but I knew that it was the book for me. Something about it just called me. Hmm...kinda like the echos that Violet feels in the book...? I was taken into Violet's world from an outside perspective. The narrative was in the 3rd person, so I got to watch what was happening with each individual character. The mystery that I was sucked into was breath-taking and sent shivers down my spine.

Oh, my heart smiles whenever I think of Violet and Jay. Their love was a bit cheesy, but in a such not-cheesy way that I couldn't conceal my happiness about their relationship. (You know what I mean?)

Anyway, I would suggest this book to anyone who is just looking for a good read. I can't wait to get Desires of the Dead in the mail soon! I will keep you posted.

Cover: 5+
Plot: 5
Characters: 5
Style of writing: 4
Overall: 5 -Amazing. It stole my heart!

Would I ever read from this author again?: YES!!

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine!

Here's my pick:

Bumped by Megan McCafferty

Summary: When a virus makes everyone over the age of eighteen infertile, would-be parents pay teen girls to conceive and give birth to their children, making teens the most prized members of society. Girls sport fake baby bumps and the school cafeteria stocks folic-acid-infused food.
Sixteen-year-old identical twins Melody and Harmony were separated at birth and have never met until the day Harmony shows up on Melody’s doorstep. Up to now, the twins have followed completely opposite paths. Melody has scored an enviable conception contract with a couple called the Jaydens. While they are searching for the perfect partner for Melody to bump with, she is fighting her attraction to her best friend, Zen, who is way too short for the job.
Harmony has spent her whole life in Goodside, a religious community, preparing to be a wife and mother. She believes her calling is to convince Melody that pregging for profit is a sin. But Harmony has secrets of her own that she is running from.
When Melody is finally matched with the world-famous, genetically flawless Jondoe, both girls’ lives are changed forever. A case of mistaken identity takes them on a journey neither could have ever imagined, one that makes Melody and Harmony realize they have so much more than just DNA in common.

My Thoughts: I know that many other bloggers have read and reviewed this book already, but I am really looking forward to this one. It seems like it will have an interesting plot, and I can't help but think that this sounds very similar to Delirium by Lauren Oliver that I LOVED. So I am keeping my expectations wide open!

Here are my teasers: (from The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting, my current read.)

" 'I'd feel better if Jay was going with you,' she said.
Me too, Violet thought without giving her words voice. Me too."

"And then she wondered if she would sense anything when she got there...a new echo maybe."

Delirium by Lauren Oliver

"The wind whispers Alex's name and the ocean repeats it; the swaying trees make me think of dancing."

That one quote stuck with me well after I closed the book. Oliver's words are like gold.

2. I am loosing space in my three bookshelves that I have to store some of my books in other people's bookshelves.

3. If I didn't read, I would be a very non-interesting person.
